Mozilla ended all access to Pocket on 8 October 2025 and permanently deleted user data. LaterList is an AI read-it-later app built on a different idea: you shouldn't have to remember where you filed something to get it back.

Mozilla announced the shutdown in May 2025. Pocket stopped taking new saves and moved to export-only on 8 July 2025. On 8 October 2025 all access ended and saved data was permanently deleted. If you didn't export before that date, that library is gone — no service can recover it.
Almost every Pocket alternative is a better place to put things. Folders, tags, nested collections, highlights. They're good apps.
But saving was never the hard part. The hard part is six weeks later, when you know you saved something about pricing, and you can't remember the title, who wrote it, or which folder past-you chose. A folder is a bet that future-you will guess the same word present-you is thinking. You usually don't.
LaterList reads what you save and works out what it's about, so you retrieve it by describing it — "that one about pricing when you're just starting out" — rather than by remembering it.
| App | Best for | Retrieval | Platforms |
|---|---|---|---|
| LaterList AI | Saving from anywhere, finding by meaning | Ask in your own words | iOS |
| Raindrop.io | Closest like-for-like Pocket swap | Folders, tags, search | Everywhere |
| Instapaper | Pure read-it-later, clean reading | Folders, search | Everywhere |
| Readwise Reader | Highlighting and review workflows | Tags, search, spaced repetition | Everywhere |
| Wallabag | Self-hosting and full control | Tags, search | Self-hosted |
Being straight with you: if you want the closest drop-in replacement for Pocket with a direct import and apps on every platform, Raindrop is probably your answer today, and Instapaper if you mainly read articles. LaterList is iOS-only right now, has no web reader, and can't import a Pocket export yet. Pick it because retrieval-by-meaning is the part you're missing — not because it ticks the most boxes.
Share links, posts, screenshots and notes straight in from the iOS share sheet. It isn't limited to articles.
Each item gets summarised, categorised and tagged automatically. You never file anything.
Lio is the assistant that searches by meaning. Describe roughly what you remember and it returns the item — no title, no source, no folder required.
Saving is free. Pro — AI recall and Lio — is $5.99/month or $59.99/year. There's a one-off $149.99 lifetime licence if you'd rather not rent another app, which is partly why this exists: Pocket's shutdown is what a subscription looks like when the company stops caring.
Not yet. If you still have your export file, keep it — import is on the roadmap but it isn't shipped, and I'd rather say so than have you find out after downloading.
iOS only for now.
